Shyam ( Sunil Shetty) comes to town from his village, expecting to get an appointment letter from the bank, where his father was an employee, before he died in a fire accident, as compensation, six months back, bank has promised shyam To give a job but he is still awaiting an appointment , bank manager tells him that the difficulty is anuradha (Tabbu) her father also died in the same fire accident and she claims to be right candidate for the job. Shyam decide to fight out for his right, so he has to stay in town. He finds a paying guest accommodation at Baburao Apte's ( Paresh Rawal) house. He is garage owner .there is already one more paying guest in his house raju (Akshay Kumar) but has not paid the rent since past two years. But a threat call, a wrong number which accidentally comes show them a way to achieve few lacs. Kabira (gulshan grover) a known criminal. has kidnapped the grand daughter of a big industrialist and he demands ransom on a wrong number by mistake, i.e. Baburao's phone. The trio decides to play a game. They pose as the industrialist to kabira and promise to pay the ransom money. They call up the industrialist and pose as kabira and demand double of the ransom from the industrialist. They become a middle man to earn few lacs. But unfortunately when the police get involved in the case, the whole plans turns risky. Their first attempt fails and then these rather simple beings dare to make a second attempt. Forced by their respective compulsions and need for money, they do make the second attempt and succeed But only to get ditched by raju who runs away with the ransom money? In another town, Nisha is studying computer science and is the darling of her elder sister, Pooja, and her parents, Professor Choudhry and Kamladevi. Fate brings the two families together and this results in the the betrothal of Rajesh and Pooja. At the wedding, Prem meets Nisha and falls in love with this carefree woman. With Pooja as the woman of the house, joy knows no bounds in Prem's family. Months pass by and Pooja becomes pregnant. Nisha is invited to come and stay with her sister and attend the traditional function before the child's birth. Nisha's arrival is like a dream come true for Prem. At these ceremonies, Rajesh's younger brother, Prem (Salman Khan) meets Pooja's younger sister, Nisha (Madhur Dixit), and after a few meetings both fall in love with each other. After a few months, Pooja gives birth to a baby, but unfortunately, dies shortly thereafter. Rajesh is devastated, and the families get together and decide that it will be in the best interests of both the child and Rajesh, if Nisha were to take Pooja's place and marry Rajesh. They have three sons - Vivek (Mohnish Behl), Prem (Salman Khan) and Vinod (Saif Ali Khan) and a daughter Sangeeta (Neelam) who is married to Anand (Mahesh Thakur). Vivek gets married To Sadhana (Tabu) , Prem and Vinod get engaged to Preeti (Sonali Bendre) and Sapna (Karishma Kapoor). Now the turmoil starts.
