"Amar Akbar Anthony - 1977 Directed By : Manmohan Desai Starring : Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor, Vinod Khanna, Praveen Babi, Nitu Singh, Shabana Azmi, Pran , Jeevan , Nirupa Roy , Mukri , Hercules, Special Apparence-Helen, Nadira, Ranjeet & Madhumati Music Director : Laxmikant Pyarelal. Synopsis : This film set the trend of films based on the lost & found theme. A dozen odd films were made on this theme but no film succeeded the way Amar Akbar Anthony did. Pran and Nirupa Roy get separated accidentally with their three kids. The kids are adopted by persons of three different religions. One is a Hindu, the second a Muslim and the third a Christian. One boy grows up as Amar, the other as Akbar and the third as Anthony. Amar is a police officer, Akbar a tailor and Anthony, a good-for-nothing. After a series of trials and tribulations, the lost and disintegrated family re-unites. This film had good comic performance by Amitabh Bachchan and the three heroines, Shabana Azmi, Parveen Babi and Neetu Singh did good work as the soft and feminine influences on their beaus. He has no intentions of getting married, but when he goes to visit his Durga Mausi (mother's sister), he falls in love with Uma - Jaya Bachchan,a religious and simple girl.He is enchanted by her voice and marries her.He returns to Mumbai, where he announces that he will never sing without Uma . However,he encourages Uma to sing alone.Soon she becomes more popular than him and from here on the seeds of jealousy begin to grow.The major difference between Uma and Subeer is that she sings for herself, whereas he sings for the public. It is the difference between geet and sangeet. This is the root for problems that crop up later in their lives, and based on this the movie is named Abhimaan.
